ABOUT FRIENDS OF HONDURAN CHILDREN:
A lack of government support for health care, and a serious shortage of adequate facilities, potable water and sanitation services have led to a serious health crisis throughout Honduras. Peterborough, Ont.-based Friends of Honduran Children Medical Brigades, consisting of 16 to 18 medical professionals, see up to 1,500 medical patients and 500 dental patients during their visit, providing free care to the country’s most vulnerable. Teaching prevention and healthier lifestyles are a key part of making a sustainable difference. Since its inception, over 100,000 Hondurans have received medical attention and over a million dollars in medicines have been dispensed.
